Another Off the Shelf Post!
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, it had been a while between Off the Shelf posts. I shared my thoughts on Sweet Enough by Alison Roman in my last Off the Shelf post, and since that book hasn’t become a favourite of mine, I thought I’d share one that is.
Love is a Pink Cake by Claire Ptak was released at the similar time to Sweet Enough, and while they are both baking books, they are worlds apart in many ways.

Recipes in the Mail Sydney Event with Amy Minichiello
If you are based in Sydney, I’d love to invite you to a very special afternoon tea with Amy Minichiello to celebrate her debut cookbook Recipes in the Mail. Amy is coming up from Victoria to celebrate her book with us Sydney-siders on Sunday August 20th. The event will be held at my family’s home in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney. There will be tea, and cake of course, all from Amy’s lovely book, and a little Q&A between Amy and I, so we can all find out more about the book and how it came to be.

Baked Vanilla Doughnuts with Blood Orange Icing
Baked doughnuts are a revelation if like me, you can’t stand deep frying things. Doughnut pans are available at kitchenware shops, and if you have access to blood oranges they are great for the icing but any citrus can be used.
I am now taking bookings for recipe development and food photography projects for the second half of 2023.

I received Love is a Pink Cake for my birthday (in May), but I haven’t baked from the book yet. I bookmarked a matcha blondie recipe and something with blackberries (I’ve got lots in my freezer from last summer). Maybe I won’t even bake from the book and it will remain unused...but I love reading the head notes and enjoying the photography as inspiration alone.
